What Cars are Still American?

2015 GMC Acadia Interior

We used to hear it all the time, “Buy American”. This was the cry shouted from the rooftops of many areas of the US for fear foreign companies would take over American jobs and create an economy we could not live in. As the time has passed and the internet has shrunk the world, we now see many manufacturers who were typically foreign in nature building cars here in the US and some of our US companies have begun building on foreign soil. This is the nature of the world we live in.

With a global economy it makes more sense to manufacture and assemble cars closer to the market they will be sold in and many automakers now have the freedom to made that leap. Even so, here is a list of cars that offer you the highest percentage of American-Made parts, what you see just might surprise you.

Jeep Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee has been a favorite for many years so why not have a smaller version to play in the compact crossover market. The Cherokee offers a more refined look than the box we are used to and is built from 71% American made parts. This makes the Cherokee one of the more patriotic builds for those who still love an American car from an American automaker.

Dodge Viper

It would almost be a heartbreaker to find out the Viper was made somewhere else, don’t fret, it’s made from 71% American components. The new Viper is one of the most brutish cars on the market and showcases its aggressive nature in a huge way with awesome power and gorgeous sleek looks making it a truly American sports car from Dodge.

Toyota Sienna

The Sienna is one of the highest rated minivans on the market today. It is roomy, comfortable and offers a great menu of features that allow the Sienna to fit any family perfectly. What may be surprising is the fact this Toyota model is made of 75% American made parts, built in the heartland of Indiana where Toyota has a large and successful manufacturing plant.

Toyota Camry

With the Sienna on this list already the Camry should be no surprise. This sedan has been a favorite in the US for several decades which makes the fabrication and building of this car in the US a “no-brainer” for Toyota. Made from 75% American parts this car is in its seventh generation of success with little to no sign of ever slowing down.

Honda Odyssey

The Odyssey has been a leader in the minivan segment for nearly a decade and is one of the best vehicles a growing family can purchase. This amazing minivan offers a ton of great features to give extra cargo room or have a great ride. It really should be no surprise for as long as the Honda plant has been in Ohio that this van is made from 75% American made parts.

GMC Acadia

If you were wondering when some typical American names were going to show back up on the list here you go. The Acadia is a truly American creation as a large SUV that is full of function and features that make the ride comfortable and give you all you want. Built in Michigan, the home of the automotive industry, the Acadia comes in with 75% American parts.

Chevrolet Traverse

Does this one surprise you at all? It shouldn’t along with the Acadia the Traverse is built in Michigan to give us a 75% American made vehicle. The Traverse has become a favorite of many in America as the perfect size and price for a crossover SUV that delivers a smooth ride, great handling and plenty of cargo and passenger space.

Chevrolet Corvette

Like the Viper we would probably be up at arms and seriously heartbroken if this awesome sports car was not made here in the US. You can put your pens down and throw away the protest letter as this awesome sports car is built from 75% American made parts. The Corvette is made in Bowling Green, Kentucky and is known as the best in high-performance driving from an American manufacturer.

Cadillac CTS Coupe

Even though the coupe was discontinued for 2015, the 2014 model was made from 75% American parts. This car was one of the best-looking sporty Cadillacs on the road but with the movement to the “V” lineup ended up in the discontinued pile, but can be looked at as the predecessor to the CTS-V and ATS-V, helping to give Cadillac is new fun and younger feeling.

Buick Enclave

The Enclave is the higher end version of the Traverse so it only makes sense to build it here in the US as well. Made from 75% American parts the Enclave is an amazing vehicle to drive with smooth handling an exceptional menu of great features and the cargo space to hit the road and have some fun. Purchasing the Enclave gives you the pride of owning a new Buick which is more dynamic and engaged than the models of yesteryear.

Whether you are shocked by this list and now look at your ride as a traitor when you previously thought it was a “Made in America” kind of ride, or you can easily see how the influence of a global market is making its way into the cars here in the US, this list shows you what vehicles are mostly built in the US.

If a domestically built vehicle is important to you, you might want to take a look at the numbers when you shop for your next great ride. On the other hand, if you can appreciate the partnerships several countries have to create the awesome vehicles on the road today, then you just might be interested to see how many of the top sellers make this list. Either way, it’s interesting to see how many of the cars we drive are mostly built here, which helps keep the prices down allowing the savings to be passed on to you when you’re ready for your next automotive purchase.
