2017 Buick Regal: Taking on All Challengers

11.10.16 - Buick Regal

The Buick Regal feels like the boxing champion of the automotive world when it comes to midsized sedan. While it’s part of a premium lineup it can offer you more style and flair than the likes of the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, be more active and engaging on the road than the Subaru Legacy or Chrysler 200 when you add AWD to the mix and offer the performance and power that puts the Lexus Is and Acura TLX to shame. This car is one that takes on every challenger and shows you something that can outperform all these other models especially when you look to the technology of this car.

The technology included comes in the form of items others don’t have yet such as the 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These features aren’t just options either; they come standard on the Regal. Other standard offerings include leather upholstery, heated automatic seats up front, dual zone automatic climate controls, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a seven-speaker audio system, a USB port and the StabiliTrak automatic stability and traction control system to give you the control you need on the road.

The options of this excellent premium sedan give you the chance to add AWD to the car along with item such as the Sport Touring group with brings you 18-inch aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler and dual exhaust outlets, the Premium II package brings you keyless entry, push button starting, a Bose audio system, HID headlights, a navigation system and a heated steering wheel. There are some stand-alone options that you can choose as well including a power sunroof, 18 and 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a 120-volt outlet. The GS and Premium II give you adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and rear cross traffic alerts. The GS model can give you 20-inch wheels to give you an even better ride if this is the trim you choose.

Since the Regal is made to take on all competitors it’s easy enough to see that this car can handle the ride wherever you need to go. Step in behind the wheel and you instantly know this is a car that has something special to offer you. The ride is smooth but engaging to let you feel confident that you can take on the road ahead with confidence and be able to handle whatever twist or turn comes you way to ensure you’ll have a smooth transition and a huge smile on your face.

The Regal comes with a choice of three different engines under the hood. All models use the same smooth shifting six-speed automatic transmission to give you the ride you want to enjoy. The base engine is the only one that is offered in only FWD and it’s a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder version that brings you 182 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine allows you to enjoy 19 city/30 hwy mpg.

Moving up to the Sport Touring and Premium II models the engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that offers 259 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is able to give you AWD and brings the fuel numbers to 21 city/29 hwy mpg in the FWD models and 19 city/27 hwy mpg in the AWD versions. At the top of the engine lineup we find the same 2.0-liter engine in the GS that’s been tuned up to offer more power and the same fuel mileage numbers to make the choice yours for the power numbers you’d like to have in your Regal.

For a car that’s considered a premium model and comes close to being a luxury version the Regal offers you an easy to afford price. This car starts at $28,000 for the base model and moves up to $29,500 forth Sport Touring version. The Premium II starts at $32,500 and the GS comes in around $35,000 to begin. Adding AWD to any model will increase the price by $2,000 but this still keeps even the top level of the Regal under $40,000 to make it an easy to afford vehicle.
