The Audi A5 Cabriolet is a Thoughtful Choice

11.22.16 - Audi A5 Cabriolet

When you drive a vehicle that’s a convertible it might not enter your mind to wonder if the automaker took into account many of the different items that you would need when the top is down. Until only recently technology and the airflow of a convertible didn’t blend well and most convertible models make it difficult for you to hear and make calls when you have the lid open, but the new A5 and S5 Cabriolet models have been thoughtfully built to give you the benefit of the drive you want and the ability to make the connections you need.

These cars are designed to be lighter and stronger than the outgoing models and the new A5 is forty percent stiffer and ninety pounds lighter to come in at 3,725 pounds. The comfort and safety you will enjoy include a head-thorax airbag that is able to provide you the protection you need if the vehicle is involved in a rollover while the top is down but the safety features such as collision avoidance, turn assist, parking assist, rear cross traffic assist and exit warnings are in place to help you avoid an accident in the first place.

With the new models of the A5 Cabriolet you also receive two more inches in length than before, which means you have more leg room inside for your passengers. The car is also wider to give you more shoulder room to enjoy as well. When the top is up you’ll notice the quiet of the cabin, which is provided by the aeroacoustic roof that is a cloth top. One amazing feature that can make your life so much better is the microphone in the seatbelts that are meant to allow you to make hands free calls even when you have the roof down (see, thoughtfully designed).

The roof can be lowered or raised in dramatic fashion in only a few seconds at speeds up to 31 mph, making for the right entrance or exit wherever you need to go. This car will be offed in Germany initially and have three engines to choose from, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder model that brings 252 horsepower, a 2.0-liter TDI with 190 horsepower and a 3.0-liter that brings you 286 ponies under the hood. Two of these engines will most likely make it to the US market with the diesel engine being the only one left out.

Of course we can’t leave out the S5 Cabriolet which uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine and is capable of producing 354 horsepower. This means the sport model of the A5 will be able to reach sixty mph in only 5.1 seconds and be able to reach a top speed of 155 mph. This version will be standard with the Quattro AWD system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This thoughtfully designed pair of Audi cars are certain to light up the European market and make us wonder just when they will be making their debut in the US.
