The Chevrolet Equinox: A Diesel Where You Don’t Expect It

Chevrolet Equinox

Get a powerful diesel engine where you never expected to see one; in the New Chevrolet Equinox.
In the past few years, the diesel powertrains used for smaller cars and SUVs have come under a great deal of scrutiny and have become models that we worry will be part of an emissions problem in the future. This makes it more difficult to decide you want to have a diesel powertrain under the hood, but the team at Chevrolet hasn’t allowed that to stop them from bringing a diesel model under the hood of the Equinox to give us something different to enjoy on the road in this compact SUV we love to drive.

The powertrain used for this model of the ride starts with a 1.6-liter EcoTec turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine that we also see being used in other models from the Chevrolet lineup. Even though this is an option, and one that does increase the price of the Equinox, the added power and fuel mileage you can have from the diesel powertrain makes this a more capable model for you to have the drive you’re looking for. If you’re not turned away from the diesel engines because of recent history, you might seriously enjoy this amazing vehicle and what it has to offer you.
If you choose the diesel power plant for the drive in the Equinox, you’ll have the benefit of four mpg more on the highway than the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and even more of an advantage over the 2.0-liter engine that are the other choices you have with the Equinox. This brings the total combined mpg for you to enjoy for the drive in this SVU to 32 mpg which is an excellent number for you to have the qualities you want on the road. This is a version of the Equinox that has a lower tow rating and a higher price, which means you have to make sure you want more fuel mileage if this is the model you choose for the drive.

Highway Driving the Way You Want

When you take the diesel-powered Equinox out on the highway, you’ll be amazed by the incredible 39mpg you’ll enjoy for the highway driving compared to 32 for the gasoline models. This means, if you have a long commute to make in this SUV on a daily basis, you’ll want to have the diesel model for the efficiency you’re looking for. In addition to giving you the efficiency you want for the ride, this SUV offers you 137 horsepower and 240lb.-ft. of torque.
Everything else you see in the Chevrolet Equinox with the diesel engine is the same as the gasoline models. The 240 lb.-ft. of torque offered in this version is an excellent number to make sure you can get up to speed quickly and move the load of this SUV the way you want. This is an energetic model to enjoy when you’re ready to drive and one that has the performance that can be right for you when you’re looking for more fuel mileage and better acceleration from your small SUV.
