Two Ram Trucks Are Needed

Two Ram Trucks Are Needed

We’ve talked about the fact that Ram is going to continue to offer the current version of the Ram 1500 at least through the 2019 model year. This generation of the Ram 1500 pickup truck is the DS model while the new one that was shown off at the Detroit Auto Show is the DT generation. You might think that both trucks shouldn’t be needed, but right now, Ram is seeing such a high demand for both that they’re having a hard time keeping up but are working hard to meet the needs of all their customers.

Filling the Gaps

When a vehicle moves from one generation to the next, there are gaps that need to be filled. By keeping the DS version of the Ram 1500 around, there aren’t any gaps in the lineup and Ram can be the truck that’s chosen more often than any other. The DS model of the Ram is targeted for fleet buyers and those that want an entry-level pickup truck. This model is being offered in several trim levels including Tradesman, Express, Big Horn, and Laramie. There is still a regular cab body that can be chosen to make this the right truck for you to drive.

The New Model of the Ram 1500

As we move toward the DT generation of the truck, the regular cab will no longer be offered. This new version will also be offered with a torque-rich and fuel efficient EcoDiesel V6 engine to give you what you want. There will be several high-end models and standard variations in the Laramie models that are going to be offered for the DT generation. In addition to this new model offering you more of what you want when you drive, this truck has an amazing level of technology to give you the connectivity you’re looking for.

The Numbers Don’t Lie for the Ram 1500

Currently, the previous version of the Ram 1500 is being built in Warren, MI, and Saltillo, Mexico. The Warren plant is where we see the quad and crew cab models while the regular cab and heavy-duty versions are built in Mexico. The new Ram 1500 is being built in the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant near Detroit. Since the new model showed up, Ram experienced sales of 52,000 pickup trucks in June, which is a six percent increase over the previous year and the best June in the history of the truck.

The DS is a Classic

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, the DS model, will be offered starting in the fourth quarter of this year. This model will likely be offered until the production of the DT model is ramped up and expanded enough to replace the DS and offer every build, except the regular cab, that we see for the DS version. Right now, if you want to enjoy a new Ram pickup truck, you’ll find remaining 2018 models of the DS and new versions of the 2019 models offered at a Ram dealer in your area.
