Meet The Debut Genesis SUV Genesis GV80

The SUV market has been huge in the United States since the early 90’s and it’s about to get even bigger with some exciting debuts coming up in the next few years. And the big buzz right now in mid-size luxury crossovers is the new offering from Genesis –the 2020Genesis GV80.

First SUV for Genesis

This is the first ever SUV for Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis. Some believe it’s a good time for them to get in on the market, since their upscale competitors already pump out several SUV’s. And they may give them a run for their money by offering their products at a lower price –just like Lexus did to Mercedes and BMW. Who knows, they may even take over a portion of the market.

The Big Reveal–New York International Auto Show

The Genesis GV80 concept was revealed in 2017 at the New York International Auto Show, and it was well received. It’s a mid-size luxury crossover, a sector currently dominated by the Audi Q7 and BMW X5. With its fast flowing lines and sloping roofline, the automakers describe the style as “athletic elegance,” where “refined style and performance meets off-road capability.”The concept interior is stylish and classy, with the center console and floorboards made of ash wood. It will come standard with rear-wheel drive with the option of all-wheel drive. It’s likely to come with the 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 or 5.0-liter V8 engine option. And there may even be a hybrid variant in the future.

Mid-size Luxury Crossover

The company launched its sedan lineup first but will probably see greater sales among its SUV’s since they are becoming increasingly popular with consumers. The GV80 is in the most important SUV segment, the mid-size crossover, and will be competing with the BMW X5 and Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the Volvo XC90. It’s the first of many SUV’s Genesis will be offering in the next few years. Genesis is also planning to unveil the GV70, which is an entry-level crossover that will compete with the BMWX3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. The Genesis GV80 is set to debut at some point in 2019 according to the automaker, before going on sale in early 2020 as a 2020 model. It’s likely to be slightly cheaper than its competition, so the starting price will be around $50,000 for the base V-6 GV80.
