It’s not a secret that if you want a vehicle that will last a long time, buy a Toyota. Which Toyota models are the longest-lasting vehicles?
The secret is that the Toyota models that last the longest aren’t even the automaker’s top-selling models. Let’s take a look.
Toyota Models That Go the Distance
The website iSeeCars compiles an annual ranking of cars, trucks, and SUVs that last the longest. Six Toyota vehicles made the cut, but none of them were the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Corolla, or Toyota Prius. These are the Toyota models that rank among the brand’s top sellers. Instead, the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia were at the top of the longest-lasting list.
The ranking includes the percentage of the vehicle’s chance to reach 250,000 miles and beyond. The overall average for vehicles is 8.6%. The top Toyota models in the ranking go way over that number. The top model is the Toyota Tundra at 36.6% and the second is the Toyota Sequoia at 36.4%. Of course, it’s no secret that a Toyota Tundra once racked up a million miles with only regular maintenance.
Not only is Toyota at the top of this list but the top five slots are taken up by Toyota models. Next in third place is the Toyota 4Runner at 26.8%, followed by the Toyota Tacoma at 26.7%, and then the Toyota Highlander Hybrid at 25.9%.
Top Ten Long-Lasting Models
As mentioned above, Toyota fills out the top five slots of the top ten list for longest-lasting vehicles. In spots six through ten, you’ll find the Honda Ridgeline, Chevrolet Suburban, Toyota Avalon, Lexus GX, and Chevrolet Silverado. The Avalon posts a 22% chance and the Lexus GX, made by Toyota’s luxury brand, posts a 20.7% chance.
Many drivers still believe a vehicle is lucky to make it to 100,000 miles, but modern cars are getting more durable. Nine cars on the list for 2024 have over a 20% chance of making 250,000 miles. Of course, to have a chance of your vehicle making it that far, regular maintenance is a must. But some models are simply engineered for the long haul. Toyota continues to have that reputation.
Toyota’s Best Selling Models Better Than Average
Toyota’s best-selling model is the Camry, but its chance of going 250,000 miles is only 13.5%. Not far behind is the Toyota Prius, but it’s even lower at 12.6%. However, it’s important to remember that the average for all vehicles is 8.6%, so these numbers are still better than average.
The more intriguing story is that of the Toyota RAV4. The compact SUV is Toyota’s third best-selling model, but its chance of making it to 250,000 miles is barely above average at 9.6%. It’s nowhere near as high-scoring as the Sequoia and 4Runner SUVs. In fact, it’s notable that most of Toyota’s longest-lasting vehicles are trucks and SUVs.
Either way, it’s clear that Toyota is the automaker to beat when it comes to building long-lasting vehicles. Visit your local Toyota dealer and check them out.
