The Geneva Motor Show is typically where we see new European models offered to give us a look at what the companies are making. Often, this is the show that gives us a look at the next European exotic vehicles and luxury rides that will be part of the upper echelon of vehicles that we can drive and admire on the roads. One brand that’s bringing a new vehicle to the show is Alfa Romeo and this new vehicle might not be one that makes its way to a top exotic model, but it is certainly a luxury choice.
What is the New Alfa Romeo?
The new model being unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show by Alfa Romeo is being called the Tonale. This vehicle is expected to be a small SUV that has a debatable platform for us to discuss. While we don’t know exactly what this SUV will be, we have seen the daytime running lights peeking out from under the wrap that was covering the Tonale to let us wonder what this new SUV will look like. We are expecting this new model to be a plug-in hybrid to give Alfa Romeo a new place in the market.
Which Platform is Being Used for the Tonale?
We can see the sharp and curvy design of the new Tonal SUV, even though the covering is draped over the vehicle. The question that has arisen for this model is the platform that’s being used. Some experts feel this SUV is sharing technology with the Jeep Compass and that means it would be built in the Small Wide platform offered by FCA. The Compass of the future is going to be built in Italy and it would make perfect sense for the Tonale and the Compass to share a platform.
Other experts have stated they feel this new SUV is built in the Giorgio platform, which makes it a true Alfa Romeo model. This would allow the Tonale to be a scaled-down version of the Stelvio, which would be fitting considering the names. The Tonale name comes from a mountain pass which isn’t quite as tall as the Stelvio Pass, making the two models the right look and build with the Tonale being a smaller model than the Stelvio. Of course, the size and dimension make it more likely the Small Wide platform is the one being used for this new SUV.

While we don’t know much at all about the new Alfa Romeo Tonale, the fact is, this is a new SUV from this brand that carries a lot of admiration as part of the FCA family. We’re going to want to learn more as the team unveils this new ride in Geneva. Once revealed, there’s a good chance we’ll have the questions answered that we would want to ask about this SUV. Once answered, we’re going to learn whether or not this is the right SUV for the drive we want to enjoy every day.
