You know spring has sprung when cars begin to shed their camouflage ahead of their public reveal. The next new model arriving is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
In actuality, the shedding of camouflage has nothing to do with the spring season. Even so, the new E-Class arrives next week, and we’ve gotten a glimpse of what this car offers. Is it any surprise that a pair of new prototypes were out showing off most of their wares ahead of the reveal? It shouldn’t be much of a shock to anyone.
What should we expect of the new E-Class?
Sometime in the near future, Mercedes-Benz will have an all-electric lineup. Much of their development efforts are going into the EQ models and not the gas-powered vehicles. That said, We still see some incredibly cool features in the new E-Class, but many of these items are shared with other sedans. Is that really much of a surprise or disappointment? This has become a standard practice in the automotive world, giving us vehicles that share much of the same technology, style, and qualities but is offered in different sizes. Doesn’t this make sense?
There’s a lot to love about this new Mercedes
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class features some futuristic items that we see in several vehicles in the luxury brand’s lineup. Some of these items include the pop-out door handles, array of screens across the dashboard, and 17-speaker Burmester surround-sound system. We should see upgraded designs for the front grille and faux exhaust tips that could become useful in some of the AMG models. Some of the items found come from the larger S-Class sedan, while others show us a hint of what the fully electric EQE offers; is that such a bad thing?
Your Merc can be a light show for the party
One interesting new feature is the Active Ambient Lighting function which changes the light pattern depending on the rhythm of the music being played. Could your car look like a light show going down the road? While not quite this distracting, the changing pattern could be pretty cool when you’ve got the car parked, and you want to play some of your favorite tunes. This could be a wonderful way to show off your new luxury sedan to some of your friends when you show up at the party.
What should power this new E-Class?
Mercedes-Benz continues to give the E-Class crowd several fantastic drivetrains to choose from. The power for this luxury midsize sedan comes from an array of engines, including four and six-cylinder models. Most of these should have a mild hybrid assist system to give you more power off the line, making this car a bit more fun to drive. We should see a PHEV version of the E-Class, which might survive into the electric future.
Early indications show that the AMG E63 could change quite a bit with the loss of its V8 engine in favor of an electric motor and a straight-six engine. This model could hit as much as 700 horsepower and 884 lb-ft of torque to provide plenty of juice out on the road. The PHEV will make it much heavier, but still, that’s a lot more power.
When will this new Merc appear?
The new E-Class will show up in its standard garb next week on Tuesday, April 25, to give us a full view of what to expect for the 2024 model year. In typical automaker fashion, this new car won’t appear with all of its variants during the reveal. We should see the AMGs later in the year, with the E53 showing first. We might not see the new AMG E63 until 2024, which is pretty normal for a new car reveal.
Will this new E-Class remain popular?
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has always filled that gap as the midsize luxury sedan that fits a family perfectly without being too big or too small. This new version carries on that tradition while borrowing features from other Mercedes-Benz sedans.
Although we won’t see a wagon variant of the E-Class arrive in the United States, it will be part of the mix later in 2024. This will give the E-Class a complete lineup to compete with the 5-Series from BMW.
Will you choose the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or drive one of the other models from this brand? The new version appears next week to give us a full reveal of what this new midsize luxury sedan brings to the market.
