Kia Unveils the Affordable EV4

The new Kia EV4 is coming soon and the automaker has finally pulled the covers off. The EV4 electric sedan and hatchback are expected to be an affordable entry-level model for the Kia lineup. The Kia EV4 concept was introduced over a year ago in 2023 along with the EV3 and EV5 SUV. Both of those models are already on the market.

Highly-Anticipated Electric Sedan

As anyone watching the EV market knows, there is a serious lack of affordable, entry-level models. This continues to be one of the reasons for EV hesitation. The Kia EV9 is highly anticipated as a mass-market, affordable model that will be available in both sedan and hatchback forms. Kia put out hints on the production model last week and has now revealed the official look.

It’s easy to see that the production EV4 is almost exactly the same as the concept revealed in 2023. The low nose and sleek profile give the EV4 a sports car aesthetic. Adding to this is a roof spoiler. It throws back to the days when several automakers had affordable compact models with a sports car feel.

Like all of Kia’s new EV models, the EV4 uses the Opposites United design theme with sharp lines, bold edges, and slim LED headlights. The EV4 is meant to appeal to a broad demographic of buyers with tons of new tech. The EV4 is expected to be Kia’s answer to the Tesla Model 3.

Hatchback Version Boasts All-Around Appeal

The hatchback version of the Kia K4 has somewhat of a boxy look, almost like the Kia Soul from the rear. In the front, it has a short nose and sloped windshield down from the roof, but from the rear, it definitely shows a boxy shape. Kia has yet to fully reveal the interior, but it’s expected to include a new infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch driver and navigation screens.

The Kia EV4 GT-Line looks even sportier than the other two models. It features some unique design elements, including 19-inch wheels with a triangle pattern and wing-shaped front and rear bumpers.

The EV4 is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and should feature about 300 miles of range at a minimum. Similar to the EV3, it will probably have about 375 miles. Industry experts believe the price will have a big impact on whether the EV4 will cut into Tesla’s sales.

Official Launch On February 24

The Kia EV4 will debut in the last week of February on the automaker’s second annual EV day. Kia will also reveal the EV2 at the same time, which is the smallest and most affordable EV model in the lineup. Kia hasn’t revealed prices yet, but the EV4 is expected to start between $30,000 and $40,000. Next week should reveal the full rundown.

To compare, the Tesla Model 3 starts at $42,490 with 363 miles of EPA-estimated range. If the EV4 starts for less than that and features 375 miles of range, it will definitely provide some strong competition for the Tesla model.

Online commenters already seem to like the hatchback’s appearance, but the sedan has gotten fewer accolades. The starting price could make all the difference.
