Even though many of us have chosen the slower life of fulfillment and family it’s still fun to dream and imagine what it would be like to be in a racing game or racing at all. We might have to drive the family hauler wherever we go, but when we come home we can turn on the gaming system and go to town with some fun and excitement on the screen in front of us. With that in mind, here is some of our favorite racing games of all time that might make a great gift to the car lover on your list.

Out Run – To give this game you would have to look back a ways since it was released in the arcade by Sega in 1986. This game does give us a Ferrari Testarossa Spider to enjoy and several others which were a lot of fun. You can still find this game in some of the throwback packs that are offered, which could give your friends a lot of fun with their racing game.

F-Zero GX – This game was a futuristic racing game that came with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System to give you a lot of fun in a car that felt more like a rocket than a car. This game was offered for the GameCube as well and is one that has been a fan favorite for many years and is still offered in the packages you can find.

Super Off Road – It’s a racing game, it’s an off road adventure, it’s a lot of fun for you and it was in arcades in 1989 to give you a steering wheel as a control around the barricaded track. This game was and still can be a lot of fun and has been on many different platforms for you to be able to enjoy it with nearly every system you have.

Project Gotham Racing – This racing game was one of the first titles for the original Xbox and was the second best-selling game for the system and was the basis for the Forza Horizon series and its success. If this is a game you loved with your original Xbox you can still find it in some places or if you want to give a great gift this is one that your car loves are sure to enjoy.

Crazy Taxi – This game showed up in arcades in 1999 before it was offered on Sega Dreamcast. This game was a twist on most racing games as you drove around picking up customers, taking them to their destinations quickly. This is a game that was fun to play and could be fun to download now as it’s available for smartphone systems.

Burnout Paradise – This was a game that was more than just a racing game, it was a game that allowed you to play and perform some crazy stunts on the track. This game showed up in 2008 on Play Station 3 and Xbox 360 but was then offered for PC in 2009. You can have a lot of fun playing this game that rewards you for the burnouts and antics you do on the track.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted – This was one of the most successful and wide spread racing games to come along. This was so popular a game that a movie was made from it in 2005. The Need for Speed game was offered on every platform you can think of and is still offered on many of them to give you a great game to play and have fun.

Super Mario Kart – There have been many versions of this game over the past several years and nearly everyone who loves to play video games loves to play Super Mario Kart. The original game showed up in 1992 and has been offered on all the Nintendo platforms since arriving on the scene. This game is fun for all ages to have a great game to play.

Gran Turismo 3 – There have been several versions of the Gran Turismo game on several different platforms to let you have the racing game you can have a lot of fun playing. There have been cars that have been designed from this game and some that have been designed for the game making it one of the most iconic racing game series yet.

Forza Motorsport 4 – This game was originally offered only for Xbox systems and was thought to be the successor to the Gran Turismo games that would be a better driving simulator. What it has become is every bit of a great game as the Gran Turismo series to give us some of the most fun to play racing games on the market today.
