Advancements in driving have brought us a long way over many years; over a century actually. From the beginning when it was difficult to navigate a vehicle and safety was not a real thought or concern to now where vehicles can practically drive themselves and are giving us more information than ever while driving. The invention of the power steering has led to an era where vehicles now have the capability to read signs and give us warnings to ensure we are following those signs, including speed limits. In addition to the sign reading, some vehicles are even equipped to park themselves for us, taking away the task of parallel parking.
Without a doubt, vehicles are now being made to do many things to help keep us safe. Because of this, the task of driving, which was at one time a two handed task has now become a multitasking frenzy from the driver’s seat. While it’s not a good idea to perform other tasks while driving, many do, including eating, talking on the phone (hopefully by use of a hand’s free device or through the Bluetooth onboard) and even having to manage children in the backseat.
Even though advancements in technology have led us to a place where our vehicles do many things for us while driving, sometimes the actual joy of driving gets lost. Volvo felt this happening and has created a vehicle that is made to bring back the pleasure of being engaged while driving in the form of the XC90 R-Design. This SUV is driver oriented and built to have the driver fully engage in the overall driving experience when behind the wheel. The R-Design will show up above the Momentum trim level and is expected to go on sale next spring when the rest of the XC90 line comes out.
The R-Design trim includes bespoke grill inserts that offer horizontal elements, a custom front splitter, silk-metal window surrounds, matte-silver mirror caps, integrated silver roof rails, unique dual exhaust outlets, 20-inch alloy wheels that can be upgraded to 22-inch models, contoured sport bucket seats, Nubuck and perforated leather upholstery, custom gauge graphics, sport pedals, floor mats, illuminated door sill plates and an R-Design leather remote control key fob. These features add a bit of sport and a certain amount of engagement to the overall driving experience for this excellent luxury SUV from Volvo.
The R-Design will be available with two engines to choose from. Firs is a Drive-E 316 horsepower 2.0-liter supercharged T6 four-cylinder engine or a 400 horsepower T8 Twin Engine Hybrid that is backed up by the 2.0-liter engine. This gives the R-Design crowd a fantastic choice for power, especially knowing whichever one they choose will be over 300 horsepower.
Driving can be a fun and exciting experience that allows you to get away from the toil and worry of work, family, bills and other daily concerns. By allowing yourself to get away, even for a little while, and go for a drive you can free your mind and feel recharged. Volvo understands this need and offer the XC90 R-Design as the perfect model to allow you that getaway feeling.
