Hennessey and Speed; A Lethal Combination

HPE750 Supercharged Mustang

If you are a regular reader you have read many times that the Mustang is one of the most upgradable performance cars on the road and time after time tuner companies prove just that.  One of the most admired and acclaimed tuner companies is Hennessey Performance which has years of experience taking Mustangs and working to reach limits that had not yet been found for one of our absolute favorite pony cars of all time.  The one goal for this most recent project was to hit a mark of speed that had not been reached in this car as of yet.

First, The team had to see what they were working with.  they took a black supercharged Mustang GT that carried in 717 horsepower and drove it to a mark of 195 mph.  While in many circles that would be more than enough to please the critics, Hennessey had a much loftier goal in mind, one that would put the Mustang in line with the supercars that have been built, which is the mark of 200 mph.  This meant the team was going to have their work cut out for them because pulling more horsepower from something that is already so highly tuned can be a daunting task.

In order to reach the 195 mph mark the Mustang was carrying a HPE700 kit which was what allowed the car to be boosted to the massive 717 horsepower mark, but more was needed to get to the two century line.  The obstacle that seemed to be in the way was in the gearing but that didn’t stop the team from creating the HPE750 Supercharged Mustang which has a boost in power to 774 horsepower and 648 lb.-ft. of torque to make it amazingly powerful and hopefully reach the mark desired.

To digress from the goal at hand for a moment, this new Mustang would be able to reach sixty mph in only 3.4 seconds and finish the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds at a speed of 133 mph; just an amazingly fast car.  In order to accomplish this feat the car is powered by a 2.9-liter supercharged, upgraded intake, fuel system with computer tuning and the HPE750 kit.  This kit increased the redline from the 195 mph version by 500 to a mark of 7,700 rpm, but would it make the 200 mph desired.

With experienced driver Brian Smith at the helm, this Hennessey car went out to the Continental Tire Proving Grounds 8.5 mile track in Uvalde, TX in order to see what it would do.  The result was an amazing top speed of 207.9 mph making this the fastest and most powerful Mustang to ever be created leaving only one question; when do we hit 225 mph in a Mustang?  I guess that will be next and it will certainly be a race to see what Mustang tuner makes that mark possible.  In the meantime we can all simple admire the amazing work and results from the team at Hennessey.
