BMW M5  The M5 used to be powered by a V10 and now it doesn’t need the added cylinders.  With an awesome 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 you get the enjoyment of 560 horsepower on an athletic model.  This makes for a lower weight than the previous E60 model and nearly 60 more horsepower to give what you want on the new M5 that came out with turbo in 2013.

Chevrolet Camaro With a new model for 2016 Chevrolet has put turbocharging to the iconic American sports car that has been a fan favorite for many years.  This comes in the form of a 2.0-liter engine that is shared with the Cadillac ATS to give a great performance.  This engine allows the car to reach sixty mph in less than six seconds and provides nearly 30 mph on the highway to make a great sports model.

Acura NSX The NSX has been anticipated for quite a while and for the 2017 model year this car not only comes back to juice up the lineup from Acura but it does so with turbocharging.  The engine found in this car will be a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that will put forth 573 horsepower because the engine is assisted by three electric motors to make this an efficient and powerful machine for you to drive.

Honda Civic Type R This redesigned and highly enjoyed Civic will show up with turbocharging for the 2016 model by making use of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is able to achieve 306 horsepower.  In the Coupe version, which is the model the Type R will be made from to give you an awesome performance car as an affordable and exciting car you can drive every day.

Ferrari 488 GTB This may be a car company you expect to be one of the last to embrace turbocharging but Ferrari has made it an important part of their lineup with this new model.  This is the first turbocharged engine by Ferrari since 1982 and this beauty will give you 660 horsepower to enjoy challenging your driving ability on any road or track you can find to show off the turbo of your car.

Ford Mustang EcoBoost – The EcoBoost name already tells you the engine is turbocharged and Ford has put the challenge out there for tuners to upgrade this engine to see what it can really do.  At the factory settings this car has been offered for 2015 and beyond with a 2.3-liter engine that can produce a strong 310 horsepower and be one of the most fun cars to drive as you can whip it around any curve you find.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06Another model that gained the turbocharging in 2015 the Corvette at the top model that offers you a 6.2-liter supercharged engine that produces 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque for you to drive.  This is more power than the outgoing 7.0-liter V8 LS7 engine that was in place before, showing you a great example of a smaller displacement doing the job better with the turbo.

Porsche 911 CarreraAnother sports car company you thought might never take on the turbocharging is Porsche, but for 2017, the 911 Carrera will be powered by a 3.0-liter engine that will offer you 370 horsepower for the normal Carrera and 420 horsepower on the Carrera S.  This makes a difference for the drive and gives the 911 turbo some serious company in the market of great Porsche models.

Mercedes-AMG C63 Another model that lowers the displacement is the AMG C63.  The previous engine was a 6.2-liter V8 but the new 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 is what we find in this car now.  This creates 469 horsepower which is eighteen more than the outgoing engine and the C63 S provides you even more grunt with 503 horsepower which is almost as much as the Black Series from 2012.

BMW M3 and M4If the M5 is going to be turbocharged these two will be using the same technology and the use of a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine is the choice for these two starting with the 2015 model year.  This gives you 414 lb.-ft. of torque and 424 horsepower to replace the old V8 that no longer needs to be under the hood with this technology at work give you better power.

As we move forward there is no doubt turbocharging is going to be more common in the automobile world.  You can bet there will be a time when we see some of these larger engines return with the addition of turbocharging to give the most horsepower possible.  For now, the trend is to pull more power out of lighter engines and overall  lighter cars to give us the performance we desire and some great power.  Right now we have these excellent sports cars leading the way for this trend in automotive technology.
