After 100 years in the automotive industry BMW is having a year of celebration and is being honored in many ways. They absolutely should celebrate, it’s not often we see a company that survives for this long and continues to have the amazing success BMW has enjoyed for ten decades. As currently the top producer of athletic luxury sports sedans and exciting coupes the BMW name rings true as a symbol of quality, precision and performance than many of us can admire. As a great honor, BMW is to be the featured marque for the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year.
This honor is one every automaker desires and only one per year gets the chance to enjoy. BMW makes a fitting choice not only for their century in business, but their commitment to excellence. As a festival designed around celebrating speed the definition of speed may take on a new luster wit this marque. BMW has never been about having the fastest car in a straight line, although many of their models can reach the right speeds in low times, but they have been about the drive and making it as athletic as possible.
As is tradition, the marque always builds their large sculpture that will be displayed on the Goodwood house front lawn. This year BMW will have a 328 Mile Miglia Roadster, a Brabham-BMW BT52 Formula 1 car and a LeMans-winning V12 LMR. These three displayed together should make for one of the most impressive sculptures ever seen on the lawn at Goodwood and certainly showcase some of the ways BMW has influenced the auto racing world. Many of us don’t think of BMW when we think of racing, but we certainly should as they have been in the mix for several decades.
Because BMW is also the parent company to Rolls-Royce and MINI there will be several models from both of these names on display at Goodwood as well. To show off the British heritage of these two brands you can expect to have several older models along with some that are currently built plus a possible concept car or two just to show off the direction these brands are heading when it comes to automotive engineering and performance. This is a fantastic way for BMW to include their sub-brands in the mix of the celebration as these names have added to the significant success of BMW.
Of course you couldn’t have a BMW display and celebration without showing off the M brand which has been around for forty of the 100 years. There will be a “M Avenue” which will celebrate this growth and development as some of the top performance models ever created on the market. We will also get to see the BMW Next 100 Concept that will be able to show the festival crowd what the future looks like for BMW. This festival is a great way to honor names in the automotive industry that have had a significant impact on the market and BMW certainly fits the bill. The festival runs from June 23 to 26 for anyone who plans to attend and partake of the amazing history of BMW.
