The announcements came in and the race was on between the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Tesla Model 3. The Bolt had a lot on its side because GM is used to being able to mass produce a vehicle while Tesla never has. This advantage is already starting to pay off with the Bolt on sale and making its way from the West Coast to the East Coast for those of us who have been waiting for this car to buy it. This new EV is already grabbing the attention of many customers around the country and is selling at a faster rate than anyone would have expected.
What makes the Bolt EV special? This is the first long distance EV that comes at an affordable price. Tesla has been known for creating long distance EV models, but the price has been significantly higher for years on those models. After the federal tax credit for the Chevy Bolt, you would pay a price that comes in below $30,000. The range of this model is 238 miles on a single charge and it gives you more of what you want on the road than any other EV model has.
Unlike other “affordable” EV models, Chevrolet gives you an energetic ride from the time you take off until you’re done driving for the day with the new Bolt. This car carries the battery pack low in the floor area to give it a center of gravity that’s easy to enjoy on the road with the balance you want to enjoy. You can enjoy changing the distance you can drive with a regenerative braking system that will add more distance to the drive when you’re out on the road. This regen system is one that isn’t nearly as intrusive as others on the market so far, giving you a great ride with the performance you want.
When you check out what the Bolt brings for the power, it’s actually extremely simple. The power is supplied by the 60-kWh lithium-ion battery pack through an AC synchronous electric motor to provide you with 200 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. This measures out to give you a full 238 miles of range and a system that can be recharged in nine hours using a 240V home charging system. If you need more range faster you can add 90 miles of range in 30 minutes with a DC Fast Charging system.
The Bolt is a car that does come fairly well-equipped to give you a great ride. The list of standard items includes a variety of power assists, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, keyless entry, push button starting, a programmable Charge Control system, the Chevy MyLink infotainment system, OnStar with 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Sirius XM satellite radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, two USB ports, the Teen Driver system and ten airbags. For the Premier model you receive leather upholstery as well as heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. You’ll also get to enjoy an auto dimming Rear Camera Mirror, Side Blind Zone Alerts, Lane Change Alerts, Rear Parking Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alerts, Surround Vision and heated folding mirrors.
The options of the Bolt are easy to enjoy with the Comfort and Convenience Package and the Driver Confidence Package that are both available on the LT model. The Premier offers you the benefit of the Driver Confidence II Package that adds low speed forward automatic braking, forward collision alerts, lane keep assist, lane departure warnings, front pedestrian braking and IntelliBeam automatic high beam assist. You can also upgrade to a Bose premium audio system, add wireless charging capability and a navigation system through the OnStar system.
The new Chevrolet Bolt EV is a car that offers you comfort versatility and features you want. This car gives you the opportunity to drive it on a daily basis and not have to worry about stopping for fuel. As one of the most anticipated vehicles for this model year, the Bolt EV is a car you want to get in and enjoy the ride. As it makes it way to a Chevy dealer near you, be sure to come out and see what the Bolt has to make it the ride you’ll want to drive.
