Chevy brought back the Blazer as a two-row midsize crossover just a few years ago, and now they’re revolutionizing it by adding an all-electric version to the lineup. The Chevrolet Blazer EV is sleek, powerful, and distinctively different from the gas model. Want to know why it’s MotorTrend’s SUV of the year? Take a look.
Let’s Start with the Power
Chevy will offer the Blazer EV in three trim levels. The RS is the first trim to arrive with a 320-mile range when equipped with rear-wheel drive and a 279-mile range with all-wheel drive.
The top-level SS trim has a powertrain that develops 557 horsepower and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Press on the accelerator in this Blazer, and 60 mph will come in just four seconds. Even with all this power, the SS is expected to go up to 290 miles on a full charge.
A Chevy SUV with Camaro Cues
When you look at the exterior of the Chevrolet Blazer EV, you’ll see hints of the Chevy Camaro muscle car. Its bold design will stand out from other SUVs. Instead of a boxy look, it has high shoulders and a low roof line to make it more aerodynamic while still having a broad stance for an aggressive look.
Unique features such as walk-up lighting and projector-beam LED headlights that stretch from one side to the other make the Blazer EV a standout. Around back you’ll find a low roof spoiler and the Chevy bowtie emblem.
What’s Inside?
There’s no way you can miss the massive 17-inch touchscreen that sits in the center of the Blazer EV’s dash, and it flows right into the 11-inch digital driver information display. The infotainment system will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a Wi-Fi hotspot and lots of standard connectivity features. Chevy even gave it driver-seat key-proximity sensors, so all you need to do is sit down, and it will start up. You don’t even have to push a button.
The two-tone black and red color scheme has just the right amount of flash, but if you prefer something more subdued, Chevy will likely offer it. If you want to pump up the sport factor, the RS and SS trims will offer a flat-bottomed sporty steering wheel.
Super Cruise Driving into the Future
Chevy’s Safety Assist bundle of driver aids will come standard with all the Blazer EV trims. It has systems such as automatic emergency braking, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. On top of all this, Chevy will offer GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology for some Blazer EV trims. This works on thousands of miles of pre-designated highways, and when activated, as long as the driver pays attention, they can take their hands off the wheel and their foot off the accelerator, and the Chevrolet Blazer will take over the driving.
The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV continues Chevy’s tradition of engineering vehicles that exceed expectations. There are many reasons why it’s MotorTrend’s SUV of the year, including the design, the EV platform, and the technology that all come together perfectly.
