The traditional models were offered in regular, and Quad Cab builds, giving this truck the impressive build that many owners looked for.
It all started on 2002
The 2005 model wasn’t the first year of the generation for this half-ton pickup truck. The 2002 version was the initial Dodge Ram 1500 of that generation. When it arrived, the truck was lauded for its impressive exterior styling and mechanical improvements. For a few years, Dodge improved the lineup with new engines for the Ram 1500 trucks.
In 2003, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine appeared, giving this truck an impressive level of power. Although RWD models came standard with a 3.7-liter V6 engine, most 4WD models came with a 4.7-liter V8 engine. Eventually, the Hemi pushed out the smaller V8 because the Hemi came with more power for off-road fun.
When the 2005 model year arrived, a 6-speed manual transmission became the standard item used for both the V6 and smaller V8 engine. This was a replacement for the 5-speed manual from 2004. The only transmission used for the Hemi V8 was a 5-speed automatic system.
What configurations were available in 2005?
The 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 came in regular and Quad Cab builds, giving truck buyers two body choices and additional seating in the Quad Cab models. There were three trim levels for this truck during this model year: ST, SLT, and Laramie. These trims increased in convenience and comfort features, putting the Laramie at the top of the list. Although most trucks came with an 8-foot bed, a 6-foot, 3-inch bed was also available for the 2005 Ram 1500.
This truck featured distinct styling
The imposing and large grille that became a signature part of the Ram 1500 appeared in the 2005 model. This set the Dodge truck apart from the rest of the pickup truck market, making it look like a tough, rugged, and impressive pickup truck to drive and enjoy. The various trims had different versions of this grille, with the ST model featuring a gray plastic version, while the chrome look was part of the Laramie and SLT trims.
The higher trims could also be had with 20-inch chrome wheels, which complemented the massive grille perfectly. Another cool feature of this truck was the Quad Cab, which featured real doors. Other trucks with the Quad Cab feature still used rear doors that had to be opened after the front doors were open.

Bold style and impressive interior design elements aren’t new to the Ram truck lineup. The 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 featured items that were larger than expected, giving this interior area a bold and useful look. The style ran the range from a simple look in the ST to a plush, high-end style in the Laramie model.
The front bench seat offered a 40/20/40 split in all models. This meant the three portions moved independently in the Ram 1500. The center area was called a “business center” with armrests and a console that’s large enough for notebook computers and other items you might need while on the road.
Drivers who chose the Quad Cab model enjoyed the benefits of a 60/40 split-rear seat with hidden storage bins underneath. The rear seats could also be folded up to make room for more cargo in the cabin.
An incredible power range
The small 3.7-liter V6 engine was a bit overtaxed in this Ram 1500, while the 8.3-liter V10 of the SRT-10 model wasn’t chosen nearly as often. The 4.7-liter V8 engine produced 235 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, while the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 delivered 345 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque in this early Ram 1500. The max tow rating was 9,250 pounds at a time before any truck could tow more than 30,000 pounds.
