Do We Really Need a Mower That Pushes 150 MPH?
The Honda Mean Mower Version 2 deserves the Guinness Book of World Records title of “fastest lawn mower,” but homeowners and lawn care pros may want to stick with a Kubota mower.
Let’s start by admitting that the Honda Mean Mower is impressive. Featuring the same 999cc 4-cyl engine as the company’s CBR1000RR Fireblade SP bike, the mower boasts 200 hp at 13,000 rpm and can hit speeds of 150 on a track.
For comparison, Honda’s top-rated standard lawnmower tops out at four mph. Depending on the model, a Kubota mower can reach up to 11.2 mph. Does that make the Honda Mean Mower V2 superior in any meaningful way, though? That’s arguable.
A Fully Functioning Mower
Honda had to produce a functioning lawn mower to claim their rightful title. Technically, the Mean Mower V2 can keep the grass in line using carbon-fiber blades powered by two electric motors.
Can it mow lawns at 150 mph? That’s questionable, at best. No one has tested max cutting speeds for this mower because they’re irrelevant. Honda has not made the Mean Mower V2 commercially available.
While no one would debate Honda’s right to the Guinness Book of World Records title, the Mean Mower V2 was designed purely as a publicity stunt.
The Internet Dreams of a Bugatti Mower
Honda’s Mean Mower V2 got plenty of attention for beating out the Bugatti Chiron in terms of speed, setting off a chain reaction on TikTok, blogs, and other social media sites. Some of the imagined results are pretty impressive, though all the online fuss in the world won’t make this dream a reality.
Most ultra-luxury brands aren’t going to bother with trying to beat Honda’s top speeds, and Honda’s Mean Mower V2 is unlikely ever to hit commercial markets. However, one well-known luxury automaker has a history of producing lawnmowers intended for commercial sale.
In 2010, BMW collaborated with an American mower maker to design an NXT riding mower. It was luxurious for its time, featuring LED lights, a phone charger, and a digital instrument cluster. Though it was quickly discontinued, the luxury mower was very much real.
You’re Better Off With a Kubota Mower
All joking aside, homeowners and lawncare professionals need mowers that can get the job done, not hit 150 mph on a track. That’s where the Kubota mower comes in.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with getting a good laugh at a video of someone doing 150 mph down the track on the back of a ride-on mower or coming up with creative designs that imagine luxury sports cars as yard care machines.
