Now available at GMC auto dealers is the GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition, a luxurious barrel of half-ton fun. This incredible off-road truck takes things higher.
It offers a diesel engine with hefty torque, a deluxe interior, and plenty of off-road upgrades to make tackling tough terrain easier. One slight drawback is that it doesn’t offer much visual distinction from a regular Sierra truck.
AT4X Package Meets America Expedition Vehicles
The AT4X Package is already packed with off-road upgrades, like an AEV winch, front skidplate, a two-inch lift with Multimatic DSSV dampers, underbody armor, and a two-speed transfer case with front and rear e-locking differentials. The AEV Edition adds even more, including a new rear bumper, new wheels, unique floor liners, headrest logos, and an exterior tailgate badge.
The 3.0-liter Duramax is the optional engine for this setup, but it’s probably the most well-matched with 305 horsepower and a hefty 495 pound-feet of torque. The Sierra AT4X AEV Edition is refined and comfortable on the pavement, but its best features stand out on the trail. It feels huge, but it maneuvers well and tackles rocks with ease thanks to all the torque from the diesel engine.
The Sierra’s off-road equipment is easy to use thanks to physical controls laid out within convenient reach of the driver. Off-Road mode is the way to go and you may want to disengage some electronic alert systems as well.
High-Quality Futuristic Interior
If spending a lot of time on the trails isn’t your favorite thing to do, not to worry because the high-quality interior is inviting no matter where you take the truck. The Sierra AT4X AEV Edition’s interior is packed with premium materials for a luxurious feel and large displays that give it a futuristic vibe. Commonly used features like climate control, parking sensors, traction control, and bed lowering are easily toggled with a button push.
The seats are comfortable in both the front and rear rows and there are quite a lot of storage cubbies and options scattered throughout the cabin. As mentioned above, when traveling off-road you may want to switch off such things as lane departure warnings, and that can be easily done when those controls are easy to locate and use.
How It Compares To The Canyon AT4X AEV
The GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition is a big truck. It tips the scales at 6,137 pounds, which makes it feel rather beastly off-road. Some might find the Sierra especially cumbersome when traveling at higher speeds off-road. It does well over rocks and hard dirt, but there’s no doubt that it feels large. Comparatively, the Sierra’s smaller sibling in the GMC Canyon also has an AT4X AEV Edition that feels a lot more nimble.
Similar to the Sierra, the Canyon features front and rear e-locking differentials, new bumpers, and five skid plates. It also has the best ground clearance in the segment at 12.2 inches. For those who like to feel less cumbersome off-road, the Canyon AT4X AEV may be a better choice.
There’s no doubt that both trucks are designed to be beastly off-road, it simply comes down to a size difference when choosing between the two at your local GMC auto dealers.
