2016 Audi R8: Blowing the Doors Off

2016 Audi R8

The new R8 is not literally blowing the doors off, but with the new design this second generation super car will certainly turn heads and leave many others in the dust when on the track. The R8 will show up in two forms, the R8 V10 and R8 V10 Plus and be known as a two-seater which is the most powerful and fastest series production Audi to date.

The R8 pairing is wider than the first generation allowing the car to accommodate track dimensions and many of the parts that were still made of steel have been replaced with either aluminum (which was heavily present on the last model) or carbon fiber which helps reduce the body weight and give it more stiffness than ever before. The front has been redesigned to allow better air flow and give the car more downforce where needed. The R8 V10 Plus is fitted with a fixed wing in the rear made from carbon fiber and reinforced plastic that keeps the back end stable allowing a driver to fully experience the awesome control of this great car.

In the power plant, the R8 pair will show up with a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated FSI V10 engine. This engine has been upgraded to include dual-mode fuel-injection, a racing-style dry-sump lubrication system and start/stop technology for those days when you just can’t make it to the track. The R8 V10 will turn up 532 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque which can reach sixty mph in less than 3.5 seconds and offer a top speed of 201 mph. The R8 V10 Plus pushed a little further, pumping out 601-horsepwer and 413 lb.-ft. of torque. This gives the Plus model sixty time under 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

Both engines are attached to a seven-speed paddle-shift S tronic automatic transmission that includes launch control and a fuel saving coasting mode. Adding the Quattro all-wheel drive to the mix give the R8 a degree of control it has not seen before and allows you to really enjoy the ride without feeling the car will careen out of control at any time.

The new frame of the R8 is called an Audi Space Frame which loses 110 pounds but adds stiffness and strength to the overall structure. This helps to improve fuel efficiency by up to ten percent. The chassis of the new R8 maintains the signature Audi double-wishbone design to give it the best ride possible.

The new R8 from Audi will offer an exciting, high-level and dynamic ride for you to fully enjoy. Not only will you enjoy the overall performance of the car itself, the look is smooth and continuous across the vehicle and the interior is full of awesome luxury appointments that will ensure you keep smiling every time you step inside the car. Of course, once you start it up, you won’t have a choice but to smile as the car takes you on an exciting ride regardless of the destination chosen, which I certainly hope includes plenty of trips to the track just to see what this awesome car can do.
