The automotive industry is constantly moving and changing. With so many brands vying for your hard earned money they have to keep making the changes and advancements that make a difference for you there is always new models being offered and old models being deleted from lineups. With this in mind, many of us already know what new vehicles are being offered for 2016, but so many of us might be looking for models that we knew were nearing the end in 2015, but weren’t sure the end would actually be 2015. Here are ten cars that you won’t find as new models for the 2016 model year.
Toyota Venza – The Venza was a nice little SUV that was just about as small as a wagon, but the Venza did not capture the attention of those of us who are looking for the smallest crossover SUVs on the market. The Venza will not be offered for 2016 which doesn’t leave a hole in the lineup; it simply opens up opportunity for the RAV4 to gain the sales the Venza did have.
Scion xB – Even though this is one of the original models that was offered by Scion and has been a great performer since the 2004 model year, its time has come to an end. The iM comes in to replace the xB as the four-door hatchback model that is meant to capture our attention and be the next great selling for Scion to fill the market where the xB is leaving behind.
Scion iQ – As a tiny two-door hatchback this car had little to offer the market and did not make any of us think it was answering the questions for shoppers. Even though there are tiny cars out there, the iQ was not one that did well for Scion and really only intrigued Aston Martin to create the Cygnet for a short period of time, this car certainly won’t be missed.
Nissan Xterra – The Xterra had a great run for Nissan and was a fantastic selling SUV when it first arrived fifteen years ago. After over 750,000 sold this SUV has finally met its end with sluggish sales for the past few years and the move toward smaller crossover SUVs this rough truck like SUV that was one of the favorites for several years will finally be out of the lineup for 2016.
MINI Cooper Coupe and Roadster – Cutting out the two seater version is probably the best move for this car because it not only sold terribly it didn’t seem to fit in the lineup anywhere. Even though MINI has been criticized in the past for cutting their lineup too much this makes sense and creates the room for the rest of the lineup to flourish.
Land Rover LR2 – The LR2 leavers the lineup where the Discovery Sport is going to take over. The differences are astounding as the LR2 meets its end and the Discovery Sport offers a longer, wider vehicle that can be had with a third row to be the right vehicle for a growing family that will make full use of a vehicle that has the added seating needed.
Jaguar XK – The XK felt like the comfort version of the F-Type, but if you want a car that will perform like the F-Type, why not just buy that car. It seems many have felt the same way and because the sales were not there to demonstrate the need to keep the XK rolling along. This follows the same as the XKE did and makes room for the F-Type to add even more sales for Jaguar.
Infiniti Q40 – The Q40 is being pushed out because the Q50 is larger and more powerful in the same segment. This has prompted a smaller and more fitting premium entry level model which will be the Q30 which will be made to replace the Q40. This adds a bit more selection to the lineup from Infiniti to give us a great series of vehicles that are made to order and fantastic to drive.
Honda Crosstour – This tiny SUV was made from the Accord to look like an inflated version of the car. While this might have fit in well in Europe and Japan, the Crosstour did not make a difference in the US and certainly was not the answer to any question anyone would ask that needed an SUV and its versatility. Honda has a great lineup of SUVs to perform perfectly and can shave out this dead weight.
Mercedes- Benz M-Class – Replace and move forward has been the way for Mercedes- Benz for many years including this one. The M-Class is being replaced by the GLE-Class which is sleeker looking and more apt to be attractive to a wider audience. So long M-Class, thanks for your service.
With these ten vehicles heading off into oblivion, the space for their replacements or other models to have the sales expected is certainly present. Let’s see how the models that replace these, most of which were at least good performers, are able to do with the sales and experience we want to have.
