Where is the Redline?

03.21.16 - Ferrari F12tdf

For race cars that redline is much higher than in any production models which means most of us will never experience what it’s like to take a car to the limits that track cars can reach. Although this is certainly true, there are plenty of awesome cars over the years that will give you a redline that is exciting and fun to challenge. Of course you still need to have some track time in order to reach the redline in almost any car, but when you find some time you can take your car out to the circuit for some great laps you can see exactly what it will do. What car should you have for this; let me help you, here are some production models that have the highest redline that have ever been made.

Honda Civic Type R (FD2)This is not the Civic of today, but one of a couple generations ago. This car was made to remind you that Honda was a motorcycle manufacturer first as it gave you a happy to rev engine that powered this lightweight car that offered an 8,600 rpm redline to give you an exciting ride in a car that has been one of our favorites for many years.

Audi R8 V10 (First Generation)The R8 has been an awesome sports car for us to enjoy with a 5.2-liter V10 engine powering the beast. This engine in the first generation offered a redline of 8,700 rpm to be a car that you could enjoy on the Autobahn or on any track in the world. This is a car that certainly gives you a fun ride on a daily basis and a comfortable interior that offers all the luxury that you could enjoy. Built on a similar platform as the Lamborghini Gallardo the R8 of the first generation is one you want to choose.

Porsche 911 (991) GT3 RSOddly enough the RS doesn’t rev as high as the non-RS, but the RS is the one you want with the additional power coming out of the 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine of an additional 15 horsepower makes up for a slight lowering of the redline. What does this mean for the revs, the GT3 RS does redline at 8,800 rpm to give you a high revving sports car that will let you have as much fun as the road offers you wherever you drive.

Ferrari F12tdfYou knew Ferrari had to be on this list, it was only a matter of time before this car showed up. With the long sleek lines that make for one of the most attractive cars ever built this model is powered by a massive 6.3-liter V12 that offers you a redline of 8,900 rpm. For this model the power is improved over the standard F12 (as if there is such a thing) to bring the number from 730 to 770 horsepower, giving you a car that is not only perfectly built, but an amazing car to drive.

Honda S2000 (AP1)As a small roadster that was made to be part of the honoring of the earlier models this car was powered by an inline four-cylinder engine that would rev to 8,900 for at least the first offering of this car. Unfortunately in 2004 the redline was dropped to 8,200 rpm but if you can find one that is pre-2004 you will have an exciting redline that will rev up and give you the power and fun you want on any road. This is an awesome car to drive even if you aren’t challenging the redline as it’s the roadster that you want to enjoy from Honda.

Ferrari 458As we see engines moving toward turbocharging and more horsepower a naturally aspirated engine seems to be the thing of the past. This car does have a great last hurrah for the power without turbos which comes from a 4.5-liter V8 engine that can make nearly 600 horsepower in the Speciale model. This power also reaches up to the 9,000 rpm redline on this car, making it a car with an engine that loves to get things done. You can move up to the 488 GTB and enjoy turbocharging, but the 458 is how you enjoy the high revs and great power of a naturally aspirated engine.

Lexus LFAThis was as close to an F1 engine as we get. The V10 that is part of the LFA that gives you a redline of 9,000 rpm to let you enjoy sucking just as much power out of this engine as you possibly can. When you hear this car screaming by you will be amazed that it’s not a racing car but one you can buy and drive for yourself. The only question left for this car will be where you can find the person to take your money so you can drive this awesome Lexus.

Porsche 911 (991) GT3Like I said, this model does rev higher than the RS model which is a bit odd, but Porsche has never been known for being conventional. This car carries in an engine that reaches a 9,000 rpm redline and makes for plenty of power to be the sports car you want to drive on any road or track. Let this little beauty be the sports car you choose with the revs you want to be a car that can lead the way and give you the revs you are looking for.

Porsche 918 SpyderAlthough this was one of the most exclusive cars during its production run it actually is a production mode. The redline for this beauty is 9,150 rpm which can be found in the V8 engine that is assisted by the awesome hybrid powertrain that makes this one of the most impressive cars ever made. While this is a car that sold for close to $1 million each the 918 is a car that gives you all of the excitement you can have from behind the wheel.

Ferrari LaFerrariThis is the ultimate Ferrari that is made to have a lot of fun. Using the 6.3-liter V12 engine that is assisted by a hybrid system to increase the power output the redline of this awesome car shows up at 9,250 rpm for you to enjoy the high rev screams of the car. The LaFerrari is a car that is as attractive and aerodynamic as you will ever enjoy on any road, but take this beauty to the track and you will have a standing appointment to bring this highly expensive beauty to show off for those who want to see a Ferrari and what it can actually do.

Honda S500/S600/S800To find this level of revs in your engine you have to reach all the way back to 1963. The engine of this run of cars showed up at 9,500 rpm making for an amazing menu of cars that has one of the most dynamic engines that was also highly reliable. Was this number in a massive V8 or V12? Nope, this number came in the inline four-cylinder engines that were part of what Honda had to offer at the time when it was making the move from motorcycles to cars.

Ariel Atom 500It’s no surprise the top production model is a car that has been used as a kit car for many and one that looks more like a race car than anything else. The Atom gives us 10,500 rpm at the redline and only 25 of this model were ever built, but it’s enough to make it a production car and the one that take the trophy for rpms. What the Atom 500 added to make it rev higher was motorcycle parts that made for a car that could run past many others on the track.
