The Honda HR-V is the compact crossover SUV that appears to be the CR-V that’s been left in the dryer too long. As the smaller version of the most popular SUV on the market today this model is ready to enter the new 2017 model year with something new for you to enjoy. It seems like this SUV wouldn’t have anything new because it’s only been on the market a short time, but it does have one new feature and a bit of a price increase over the model from the 2016 model year.
The 2017 Honda HR-V comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, push button starting, a push button electric parking brake, Automatic Brake Hold, a rearview camera with guidelines and an infotainment system that supports Bluetooth connectivity and Pandora to give you an SUV that has some great features that you can enjoy making use of on the road. This has been one of the most popular SUVs that we’ve enjoyed on the road over the past year or more. As one of the most popular models on the market, the HR-V has been a vehicle that gives us a great small vehicle to drive, but that doesn’t cover what’s new yet.
Under the hood we see a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that offers up 141 horsepower and 127 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is able to be attached to either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic and is set up with FWD to be efficient and able to give you the ride you want. The FWD model gives you a combined fuel mileage of 31 mpg but this SUV can also be equipped with AWD and offers you 29 combined mpg when this is the case, but that’s still not what’s new about the HR-V.
Just during the month of August there were over 7,000 models of the HR-V that were sold in the US. This is a great number for only one month of sales and this SUV has been steadily improving in its ability to become a sales leader in the industry. There aren’t very many SUVs on the market that sell the way this HR-V does sell. This vehicle is certainly a nod to the fact that we seem to want our SUVs to be smaller, but that also isn’t what’s new about the HR-V from Honda for 2017.
What’s new about the HR-V? Not much at all really. This SUV now offers one new color for you to choose called Lunar Silver Metallic and it comes with a price increase of a grand total of $150. Why are these significant of the 2017 model year? Because a vehicle that continues on basically unchanged is something we look for in the industry. Too often automakers feel they need to make changes to improve sales, but the HR-V has been experiencing strong sales right from the beginning and will continue to do so. These subtle changes for the HR-V won’t make a huge difference, but will give you a beautiful new color.
