01.10.17 - Hyundai Elantra Sport

Hyundai has been developing a new lineup of sport tuned vehicles that will carry the load when it comes to the need for direct and engaged driving desires, but they aren’t going to wait for the new N cars to enter the market before taking on some strong competitors. You see, other automakers have developed sporty and active trims on their otherwise mundane cars to get us excited. We’ve seen the Jetta GLI, the Civic Si, the Focus ST, the Fiesta ST and more that have captured our attention while bringing us the power we want, the enthusiasm that will make a difference and the drive that we love.

Now, Hyundai has added the engaged sportiness to the Elantra to bring us a car that’ will drive great and compete with these performance leaders. This new Elantra is the Elantra Sport and it’s an amazing ride for you to enjoy. At first glance this new car has a few visual changes you’ll love such as new bodywork, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, sport seats and contrasting stitching. Underneath, the Elantra Sport uses a new multi-link rear suspension to improve the car’s ability to hold the road and provide the drive we want to enjoy.

Of course this couldn’t be an active and fun car without an impressive powertrain for you to enjoy the drive. The Elantra Sport benefits from the 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder engine that came from the Veloster Turbo. This engine brings you 200 horsepower and 190 lb.-ft. of torque while being attached to one of two transmissions for you. You can row your own gears and feel confident on the road with the six-speed manual transmission or you can enjoy the smooth shifting of the seven-speed dual clutch automatic that has manual shift paddles to give you the ride you want to enjoy.

With the move in the market toward more active powertrain models at the bottom of the lineup this is a car that makes a lot of sense. Hyundai already has a lineup of cars that feel and look sporty but adding a Sport model to the mix that’s small and agile on the road helps to increase the enjoyment of the ride in this excellent vehicle. What I’d love to see is how this car performs at the track at Nurburgring compared to many of the competitors and their sport tuned variations that we’ve already seen.

Are you looking for a car that balances fuel efficiency with a desire to drive fast and have a great ride? The Elantra Sport is the way to do it and not spend too much money. This affordable little sportster is an awesome car for you to enjoy the ride and have a car that you can unleash on a patch of open road. You’ll love the way the Hyundai Elantra Sport feels in your hands and wonder why this car hadn’t made it to the market before now, but certainly be glad it’s available to you now so that you can have the car you want to drive every day.
