Buick Continues to Upgrade the LaCrosse; for China

The Buick team quietly took the wraps off the new 2020 Buick LaCrosse that will be offered in China but won’t be part of our lineup.

Only time will tell us whether or not the decision by GM to kill off several of its sedans is the right one. Unfortunately, during that time, we won’t have the benefits of driving one of the most incredible premium sedans in the world. This new sedan makes us want to storm the GM castle and tell them to add this sedan back to the mix so that we can enjoy the drive in the US.

The Market for this Buick

It’s been no secret that China has become the largest market for Buick in the past several years. For those who are approved for a license and the ability to drive on the roads in China, the idea of choosing a large and sensual sedan is certainly an attractive one. The new 2020 Buick LaCrosse will fill this need and make it possible for the Chinese market to continue to admire and enjoy this big car and what it brings for the drive around the roads that are growing quickly every year in the most populated country in the world.

It’s More Handsome than Ever

The previous version of the Buick LaCrosse was an attractive car that showed us the style and the appearance we admire, but this new one is even more attractive. The front and rear have been upgraded to give you the look you desire. The front offers a new horizontal pattern grille, slimmer headlights with an LED design, and a new lower bumper to give you the front end that’s incredible to look at. The rear offers you a departure from the old to ensure you have smaller flowing taillights that mesh well with the chrome strip on the trunk lid.

Improved Power for this Buick

GM is adding a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder LSY engine in the new LaCrosse. This is the same engine that’s used in the Cadillac XT4 that we see in the US. This engine is good for 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque and it’s attached to the nine-speed automatic transmission to give owners the driving confidence they want on the road. This is certainly an efficient way for the LaCrosse to be able to handle the tough traffic that’s offered on the roads in China.

The LaCrosse is Being Produced in China

The GM team has already opened plants in China and we see proof of that in our own market with the Envision SUV from Buick. The 2020 Buick LaCrosse is only slated for the Chinese market and it will be exclusively produced in the Shanghai facility to give this car a local area to be built and sold. The US version of this car is being canceled after 2019 and the Detroit-Hamtramck plant where this car is currently built will be closed. We want the 2020 LaCrosse, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to get it.
