Acura Turns up the Heat With a New Integra Type S

The ink hasn’t dried on the news of the return of the Acura Integra, and now we know a Type S model is on the way for the 2024 model year.

Acura is giving us the heat and then turning it up instead of cooling things off. The 2023 Integra seems like new information and something to look forward to this coming summer, but wait; there’s more. If you hold out for one more year, the Type S model will hit the market to deliver even more power and performance for you. Which Integra will you drive?

What Does Acura Deliver for 2024?

The first model of the Integra shares a powertrain with the sporty and fun Honda Civic Si. This leaves the Civic Type R platform as a potential partner for the Type S model of the Acura, which is exactly what’s been confirmed. This new high-powered, performance-oriented Integra hits the market for the 2024 model year with a hardcore 2.0-lite turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that pumps more than enough power through the six-speed manual transmission to send plenty of power to the front wheels.

Don’t Expect Raucous Styling in this Acura

The new Acura Integra Type S, if it shows up similar to the prototype model, will not be as polarizing or track-focused as the Honda Civic Type R. Instead, this new high-performance luxury sedan maintains its sophisticated position in the market to give us an impressive car with wider bodywork and impressive wheels and tires that offer the look and feeling desired. You will notice three exhaust ports in the rear, which makes this car shine with desired performance.

Underneath the new Type S, we should find a limited-slip differential to aid in performance and driving fun. This feature, coupled with the 300-plus horsepower powertrain, makes this new Integra something special.

Could the Powertrain for the Type S Change?

Although we expect the new Integra Type S to use the same setup as the Civic Type R, the Acura name is the luxury marquee, which means we should expect something more. It’s possible Acura will insert a new dual-clutch automatic transmission in place of the six-speed manual. Rumors swirled around this change or the Civic Type R, but nothing ever came of these grumblings. This new feature could make the Integra Type S more attainable for drivers that don’t want or know how to use a manual transmission.

What Should We Expect This Summer?

If you’re chomping at the bit to grab a new Integra, you don’t have to wait until the Type S is available to have a great car to drive. The 2023 version of the Integra signals a return to the market, and this car brings the fun and active drive that you want to experience daily. This new version shares a platform with the Civic Si and offers two transmissions to make this car easy for anyone to drive.

What is the New Acura Integra?

The 2023 Integra is a 5-door liftback, offering a hatchback rear which offers a large opening to give you plenty of room for the gear you’ll want to take with you. For the most part, the car looks like a sedan, which is what many people call it. This car makes us think back to previous versions of the Integra and the performance-oriented fun offered in a small premium car. This is especially true when you look at the A-Spec trim, which has the six-speed manual transmission you want to enjoy.

The Integra Shares a Platform with the ILX

If you’re wondering whether or not the new Acura ILX is also built on the same platform, the answer is yes. That said, you’ll need to choose between comfort and fun when shopping for this luxury brand. If you’re looking for the most fun, you might wait one year for the Acura Integra Type S, but if you’re ready for some excitement now, the A-Spec model is what you’ll drive. The key differences between the ILX and Integra come in the driving manners, with the Integra bringing the sport-tuned suspension and variable-ratio steering system to every model.

Pack it All In for Some Driving Joy

How can you have the most fun in the 2023 Acura Integra? The best way to do this is to start with the A-Spec model. This gives you LED fog lights, an appearance package, 18-inch alloy wheels, and the manual transmission.

Once you’ve gotten to this point, you’ll want to add the Technology Package to the mix. This package adds puddle lights, front and rear parking sensors, an adaptive suspension, a head-up display, low-speed automatic emergency braking, ambient LED cabin lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, three USB-A ports, a 9-inch infotainment system, Amazon Alexa compatibility, wireless device charging, a 12-way power driver’s seat with memory settings, 4-way power passenger seat, and 16-speaker ELS Studio audio system.

If you happen to stick with the CVT for your Integra, the Technology Package includes a remote start function.

How Much Power Does the Integra Offer?

As the new Integra returns to the market, we see the desired power coming from the Honda models is shared upmarket with this Acura. The 2023 version of this car gives you a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.

Will this be the right version for you, or will you wait for the Acura Integra Type S? If you wait for the hotter model, you’ll find a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that pumps out more than 300 horsepower when it arrives in the summer of 2023.

Could Things Change in One Year?

The Acura Integra Type S has been confirmed. That won’t prevent Acura from changing the powertrain to add a new transmission, tuned up the engine for more power, or giving us a more hardcore build for this hot new model. A year can be a long time, especially considering how fast things change and improve in the automotive world.

As we learn more about the newly confirmed Type S model of the Integra, we’ll let you know what to expect with this hot new compact luxury car.
