The Ford Taurus is Gone Again and Isn't Going to Return

The rebirth of the Ford Taurus took place in 2010 when the company chose to rebadge the Five Hundred with a new facelift and new name.

If you’ve been around for a few decades, you’ll have seen car names come and go a couple of times. Nearly every brand has at one time or another, deleted and then resurrected a name to give us something we’ve missed. This is certainly true of the Ford Taurus. This car originally left the vehicle lineup in the US in 2006 with the final model being sent to the Chick-Fil-A headquarters to be part of the car collection of the founder. At that time, no one thought the Taurus would make a return.

The Return of the Taurus is Over

This is the generation of the Taurus that we’ve seen on the market for the past nine years, but it’s now time to say goodbye to a large sedan that has captured our attention and given us the drive we’ve loved for many years. While the Taurus was lucky enough to live twice, the direction of Ford makes us wonder if it will ever be seen again.

The History of the Taurus

The Ford Taurus first appeared on the market in the 1980s with a bold new design that captured our attention. This car looked somewhat similar to the Ford Tempo of the time but the Taurus quickly became the large sedan that offered us a drive that made sense and provided a fantastic way to carry the entire family wherever you needed to go. For those looking for more fun from behind the wheel, the Taurus SHO was offered to give us the sports sedan that would be a lot of fun on the road.

The sibling to the Ford Taurus was the Mercury Sable and there was a refresh that took place in 1992 to give us similar looks but upgraded features for the drive desired. The Ford brand had to find a way to continue to capture customers and help them avoid the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry models and it did this with the third-generation model. This new generation showed up in 2000 to look more bulbous inside and out to give us the build that we loved until the Taurus was killed off for the first time in 2006.

Will We See the Taurus Again

Even though the Ford Taurus has already been brought back once, it’s unlikely that Ford will bring this car back a second time to give us a large sedan again. Ford is moving toward more trucks and SUVs in its lineup and the only car we’ll see going forward is the Mustang. The Taurus will live on in China, but it won’t be offered anywhere else. Say goodbye, for the second time, to the car that has been the large sedan we’ve loved, twice, from Ford. The Taurus is gone and it may be for good this time.
